1. The 9/11 commission has already said they have seen everything. Anything that Sandy may have taken would not have any bearing on the outcome of the 9/11 report. To the press, this was the central issue. If Sandy had stolen something that prevented an accurate accounting of 9/11, the story would still be front page.
MR. HAMILTON: We've seen all those documents.
MR. RUSSERT: All the drafts of the post-millennium, postmortem memos.
MR. HAMILTON: We believe we've seen all the documents. The documents went from the archives to the White House to us. And we're quite sure that we've seen all of the documents in full. The chairman I think made not one but two inquiries of staff to make sure that we had all those documents, and we're very sure that the final report, the integrity of it, is not compromised in any way because of that distraction.-Meet the Press 07/25/04
2. The information gathered was not to protect Bill Clinton but to gather information about Bush for Kerry, whom Sandy was an advisor to. Why would the media want to harm their candidate by hounding on one of his advisors for breaking the law?
3. The DNC national convention. Whats amazing to me is that they are actually arguing about how much Bush bashing they want to do at the convention. They are afraid it will backfire on them with the American people. Maybe they learned their lesson from the 2002 Paul Wellstone Memorial.
